On Thursday October 26th 2017, Dr James J. Hogg, DDS, will be giving a lecture to the dental resident students at Mountain Area Health Education Center (MAHEC). His topic is Oral Appliance Therapy: Efficacy and Implementation. In the talk, he will be discussing the use of dental devices instead of Continuous Positive Airway Pressure machines (CPAP) for the treatment of Obstructive Sleep Apnea.
Dr Hogg has recently joined Phillips & Schmitt, DDS, PA dental office in Asheville, NC after moving from Chicago. He received his Diplomate status with the American Board of Dental Sleep Medicine (ABDSM) in 2010. This is the leading organization in the country for dentists who excel at treating obstructive sleep apnea with oral appliance therapy. Becoming an ABDSM Diplomate is a unique honor that recognizes exceptional competency in Dental Sleep Medicine with a unique ability to provide an alternative, effective treatment to the Continuous Positive Airway Pressure machine (CPAP).
In Chicago, Dr Hogg was the Director of two Accredited Dental Sleep Medicine Centers that treated patients with oral appliances and or combinations of oral appliances and CPAP’s. He is a frequent speaker for the American Academy of Dental Sleep Medicine (AADSM) and has given lectures in the past to MAHEC and the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill on the topic of Dental Sleep Medicine.
