On Friday, December 1st 2017, Dr James J. Hogg, DABDSM, DDS, will be a guest lecturer at Mountain Area Health Education Center (MAHEC) presenting to Sleep Physicians, Dentists and Respiratory therapists. Oral Appliance Therapy in combination with the CPAP to increase patient CPAP adherence and Oral Appliance efficacy will be the first topic he will cover. In the second lecture, he will be discussing the use of calibration techniques in the dental office to improve the Oral Appliance effectiveness in controlling Obstructive Sleep Apnea and to increase the patient’s energy levels and decrease their snoring.
Dr Hogg has recently joined Phillips & Schmitt, DDS, PA dental office in Asheville, NC after moving from Chicago. He received his Diplomate status with the American Board of Dental Sleep Medicine (ABDSM) in 2010. This is the leading organization in the country for dentists who excel at treating obstructive sleep apnea with oral appliance therapy. Becoming an ABDSM Diplomate is a unique honor that recognizes exceptional competency in Dental Sleep Medicine with a unique ability to provide an alternative, effective treatment to the Continuous Positive Airway Pressure machine (CPAP).
In Chicago, Dr Hogg was the Director of two Accredited Dental Sleep Medicine Centers that treated patients with oral appliances and or combinations of oral appliances and CPAP’s. He is a frequent speaker for the American Academy of Dental Sleep Medicine (AADSM) and has given lectures in the past to MAHEC and the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill on the topic of Dental Sleep Medicine.
